CLAIMS - What do I do now?

During normal business hours, one of the first things you should do is contact our office.    We will provide you with the answers to most of the questions you will have and make the initial report of loss to your insurance company for you.   

This page will provide some suggestions of what to do when a loss occurs and what options you have for assistance after office hours.   We hope this information and some of our valuable tips will prove helpful should you suffer a loss at anytime of the day or night. 

AUTOMOBILE GLASS REPAIRS

Automobile glass damage is covered if you have purchased "Comprehensive" coverage for that vehicle.  If you have a broken or cracked windshield or other glass to your covered automobile, you may report this damage directly to your company.  Most companies have special glass repair programs.  When you call them, please have your policy number available (see your Insurance ID Card) and tell them what happened to your glass. 

You will be asked if you have a preference of who will do the repairs to your car.   You may choose from any of several repair shops.  In Altoona.  Be aware that if you selected a deductible for your comprehensive protection, you will be expected to pay that deductible when the repairs are completed.  Glass claims may be reported to the following companies at these numbers:

Automobile Accidents

             What to do at the scene of an accident:

  1. STOP immediately, but do not obstruct traffic
  2. ASSIST injured.  Have someone call the police.  Repeat after 5 minutes
  3. SECURE names, phone numbers, addresses of impartial witnesses and injured persons
  4. SECURE make, model, license numbers of all cars involved
  5. MAKE rough drawing of scene, showing position of cars and other details
  6. DON’T hastily accept claim settlement at the scene of accident
  7. REMAIN calm, courteous and consistent in your version of the accident
  8. NOTIFY your agent or insurance company as soon as possible

Please remember that it may be important to call the police whenever your involved in an automobile accident, especially if you were not at fault!   Occasionally, at the scene of the accident, the  “other guy” may admit fault for the accident, but after thinking about the accident their story may change when reporting the facts to their insurance company!  It could become your word against theirs, especially if you don't have names of impartial witnesses to account for the facts of the incident.

Claims reporting with the Farmers Insurance Group is available by calling 1-888-4-claims   (1-888-243-8789) at ay time of day or night.  You may also visit www.farmers.com and click on the word "Claims" to report the loss online.  Remember that you will need your policy number to report the loss.

Penn National Insurance - If you need claim assistance after hours, please have your policy number available when you call.  To report your loss call  800-241-2541.  By using the Penn National  Direct Repair Program, you can take your damaged car to one of their designated repair shops, who will repair your vehicle and bill the company directly. This speeds the process, and saves you from filling out claims forms.  A list of  local auto body shops that participate in the Direct Repair Program are shown below.  Select the shop most convenient to you.

If none of these shops are satisfactory, PNI will work with a shops of your choice.

By following these suggestions, you can help us deliver speedy, effective management of your claim for property damage or loss:

Keep an inventory of your belongings

If you make an inventory of your belongings, we'll be able to replace them more quickly after a loss.  For starters, make categories on a sheet of paper. You might want to include electronics, furniture, appliances, hobby items, fine art, collectibles, jewelry, tools, and clothing. For larger items, record serial numbers. Whenever you can, save receipts, and take photographs or make a videotape. Keep all these records away from your house, such as in a safe deposit box. Review the list with your agent, to make sure you know which items are covered by your insurance, and which items might not be covered.
